UPCOMING CAIV EVENTS

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SCEA CAIV CONFERENCE:

CONFERENCE DATES: 28-29 October 1998

Conference Objectives:

Build on results from the 1^st SCEA CAIV Conference (18-19 March 1998). The topics for the October 1998 conference are focused on key areas identified by participants at the first conference. These topics are: 1) Balancing User Requirements With Cost Objectives, 2) CAIV Process Integration and Implementation, and 3) Contractual Implementation of CAIV.

Integration of ideas from government and industry attendees.

Each working group will present and provide handouts that will cover their area. (Outbrief material from the three workshops will be available to all participants.)

The major output from this 2nd CAIV Conference will be a Table of Contents for a Southern California SCEA CAIV Guide. As a result of the 2nd Conference, we will establish Government/Industry Working Groups to develop these details and present them at a subsequent Southern California SCEA CAIV Conference.

The Government/Industry CAIV Guide is envisioned to be for the CAIV practitioner. It will contain lessons learned and best practices gleaned from the members of the working groups supporting the development of the Table of Contents topic Chapters created at the conference. It may be scenario-oriented, case studies may be included, step-by-step guidance provided, etc., depending on the format most appropriate and agreed upon by the working group members for the given CAIV subject.

Working group members contributing to the Guide will be formally recognized by having their names associated with the chapters to which they contributed. We are also looking into having Air Force SMC, Secretary of the Air Force, and DoD recognition.

Future Activities:

Future activities are currently TBD because of the need to collate Air Force Materiel Command, Air Force Aeronautical Systems Command, and Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center CAIV work. As soon as future activities are agreed upon, they will be posted on this web page.

Background Information:

Air Force SMC has been assigned by the Secretary of the Air Force, Acquisition Program Management (SAF/AQ) and HQ Air Force Materiel Command, Acquisition Program Management (AFMC/AQ), to be the lead for a Re-invention Team on CAIV, specifically, "CAIV: Sustainment Emphasis in the Requirements Process." (This topic is covered in Working Group I.)

The Society of Cost Estimating and Analysis (SCEA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving cost estimating and analysis in government and industry and enhancing the professional competence and achievements of its members.
